Many veterans have endured high-risk duty assignments, including combat, which may leave lasting trauma or symptoms of PTSD. As they age, these memories can resurface, causing distress for both the veteran and their loved ones. Providing a medically appropriate, emotionally supportive environment is essential to ensuring comfort and peace during this stage of life.
Since hospice care is part of the VHA Standard Medical Benefits Package, all enrolled veterans who meet the clinical criteria are eligible for services. There are no co-pays when hospice care is provided through the VA or a contracted organization.
